Blueberries and fruit trees were the first things we planted on the farm after moving in.  Kristi eats a lot of blueberries and now we would have room to grow them.  Kristi tries to freeze at least 10 lbs and that can get expensive purchasing at the store.   It seemed like a simple decision, we love to grow things, Kristi loves blueberries, and we have the room.  Oh boy, has it been a steep learning curve.  Kristi picked out 6 different varieties that were supposed to do well in our climate.  Our soil, however, is not great for blueberries so Kevin had to dig 300 holes and replace the soil with a mix that would help the blueberries thrive.  They are in their 4th year now and produce enough blueberries to actually make it up to the house.  Our two little pickers tend to eat a lot of the produce before it ever makes it up to the house.  By the fifth year, they say the blueberry plant is starting to mature and should start producing more berries.  Here’s to fingers crossed we will have blueberries to share in 2023 as Kevin has put a lot of blood, sweat and tears into these.  You will have to ask him all about his love/hate relationship with the blueberries.

This was our second year offering fresh blackberries picked from a wild patch on the farm.  Kevin’s father has been picking from the same patch since he was a kid and is still picking for us. Kevin has spent time hacking back the wild brush giving the bushes room to grow and thrive.  The sea of white blossoms are beautiful in the spring.

Raspberries were a second year addition.  We were fortunate enough to be able to dig nine plants from a local property comprised of two different varieties.  These nine plants have filled into three tasty rows of raspberries ripening at different times throughout the summer.  We will be offering our raspberries to our berry email list subscribers starting in July of 2023.
